The original and still most recognizable domains that were established in 1985, at the dawn of the Internet. Because most everyone on the planet easily
recognizes the viability of .COM, .NET and .ORG these domains are still in the greatest demand.
.COM: a generic top-level domain established in January of 1985. Although .com domains have always been intended for
commercial use, they are currently available for anyone to register. In the 1990s "dot com" became the most common top-level domain
for websites, especially commercial ones. It is currently administered by VeriSign, with registration available through ICANN-accredited
registrars, like WDDX.NET / TuCows.

.NET: a generic top-level domain established in January of 1985. Originally intended for use by network oriented entities such as
Internet service providers, it may actually be purchased by anyone. It is currently administered by Verisign, with registration available

.ORG: a generic top-level domain established in January of 1985. Originally intended for use by organizations, it may actually be
purchased by anyone. It is currently administered by the Public Interest Registry, with registration available through ICANN-accredited

The 2001 TLDs (Top Level Domains)
Facing a dwindiling number of available names, ICANN allowed the addition of a number of new TLDs to help alleviate the growing need for virtual name spaces.
Though not as recognizable as .COM, .NET and .ORG, the next generation of names such as .BIZ for companies, .INFO for informative sites and .NAME for individuals
are gaining in popularity.
.BIZ a generic top-level domain created in 2001 to relieve some of the demand for the finite domain names available
in the .com top-level domain, and to provide an alternative to businesses whose preferred .com domain name had already been
registered by another party. There are no specific legal or geographic qualifications to register a .biz domain name, except
that it must be for "bona fide business or commercial use". It is currently administered by Neulevel, with registration available
through ICANN-accredited registrars, like WDDX.NET / TuCows.

.INFO: a generic top-level domain created in 2001 to relieve some of the demand for the finite domain names available
in the .com top-level domain. Though intended for informative websites, its use is not restricted. It is currently administered by Afilias,
with registration available through ICANN-accredited registrars, like WDDX.NET / TuCows.

.NAME: is a generic top-level domain (gTLD) intended for the use of individuals. It was delegated to Global Name Registry in 2001, although it did not
become fully operational until January 2002. WDDX.NET registers names for individuals on the "third level" (first.last.name). It is also possible to register an
e-mail address on the form first@last.name together with the domain first.last.name. Such an e-mail address is a forwarding account, and requires another e-mail
address to be delivered to. It is currently administered by Neulevel, with registration available through ICANN-accredited registrars, like WDDX.NET / TuCows.

The ccTLDs (Country Code Top Level Domains)
Country Code TLDs were created in 1985, but recently a number of countries have begun leasing the rights to domain names under their ccTLD to individuals and companies for
a profit. Though not as recognized as the traditional TLDs, there are also fewer competitors for a name you might really like to own.
.US: is the Internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for the United States of America, established in 1985. Registrants of .us domains must be
United States citizens, residents, or organizations, or a foreign entity with a presence in the United States. Previously the purview of local governments,
the .US ccTLD opened for eligible commercial use if April of 2002.

.CA: is the Internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Canada. Registrants of .ca domains must meet Canadian Presence Requirements
as defined by the registry. Examples of valid entities include: a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada, a legally recognized Canadian
organization, an Inuit, First Nation, Metis or other people indigenous to Canada, an Indian Band as defined in the Indian Act of Canada, or a foreign
resident of Canada that holds a registered Canadian trademark. It is currently administered by the Canadian Internet Registration Authority, with
registration available through ICANN-accredited registrars, like WDDX.NET / TuCows.

.CC: is the Internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Cocos (Keeling) Islands, an Australian territory. It is one of the ccTLDs internationally

.CN: is the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for the People's Republic of China. The domain name administration in China is done
through a branch of the Ministry of Information Industry. This ministry is the ministry overseeing everything from telecommunications to
broadcasting similar to FCC of US. The actual registry is maintained by China Internet Network Information Center, with registration available
